Description
UFO: Aftershock is the sequel to the highly successful 2003 title - UFO: Aftermath - and follows directly from one of the endings of the first title, where the player agrees to hand over the Earth to the Alien scientists, who are trying to change the planet into a giant living organism. The Council of Earth and their followers take refuge on an orbiting satellite prepared for them by the aliens, but not all the survivors of the original invasion where re-located. The game starts after many years in their new home, with no sign of the aliens and a failing life support system – the player must find out what happened to the Earth, the people left behind on the surface and the new visitors.

Universal Combat could very well revolutionize what a space sim (any sim for that matter) should be. If it lives up to all the hype and everything that Dreamcatcher has asserted, and also plays as well as it looks, this game may transform more than just the sim genre.
Fight anything anywhere anyhow... and by any means necessary!
Universal Combat takes you into a seamless universe full of epic space
battles, massive ground skirmishes, fierce naval engagements and even
tense dogfights above the planetÕs surface. In solo mode or in multiplayer,

Universal Combat brings together the greatest components of any war

Generations, the fifth title in the long-running Battlecruiser series,
during development it morphed into much more than a massive space
simulation. As Universal Combat, the new action-based focus,
direction and premise of the new incarnation caters to a wider
audience of action and space sim fans alike.

the series further into the epic realms of sci-fi greatness with a suite

In Ultima IX, the lush vegetation, rolling hills, mountain peaks, and classical architecture that lend the fantasy world of Britannia its distinctly plausible appearance all serve to effectively convey the seamless alternate reality that Ultima fans have always hoped to see. Although you can't see very far into the horizon no matter how you adjust the view setting, the sheer detail in any single location in Britannia is impressive.
The world is never static; birds and butterflies flutter about, the weather and ambient lighting change slowly as the day passes, and the scenery is consistently unique no matter where you are. There's plenty of detail whether you're outdoors or not. You'll also find yourself traveling beneath Britannia, and what you'll experience in its various subterranean settings, such as catacombs, sewers, and prisons, is nearly as diverse and impressive as the plains, swamps, and snowfields on its surface.
And for you people who are as old as me and played Ulitima III on the 51/4 disc for C64, this is the last game made in the Ulimta series since Ultima On-line is out. Enjoy.

Description:
Unreal Tournament 3 (UT3) is a first-person shooter and online multiplayer video game by Epic Games and is the next installment of the Unreal series after Unreal Tournament 2004. It is published by Midway Games and was released in North America for Windows on November 19, 2007. It was released in North America for the PlayStation 3 on December 10, 2007,. The Linux installer is planned to be released later as a downloadable installer that works with the Windows disc.
Unreal Tournament 3 is actually the fourth game in the Unreal Tournament series and the eighth Unreal game, but it has been numbered in terms of the engine it runs on. The original Unreal Tournament uses the original Unreal Engine, while UT2003 and UT2004 use the Unreal Engine 2, and 2004 incorporates all of the content from 2003; therefore they are considered as the same generation. UT3 is subsequently part of the third generation, because it runs on the Unreal Engine 3, and does not reuse any content. In March 2008, Midway announced that UT3 had sold over a million copies worldwide.
Similar to the previous entries of the series, the game is primarily an online multiplayer title offering several game modes, including large-scale Warfare, Capture-the-Flag, and Deathmatch. It will also include an extensive offline single-player game with an in-depth story, advancing from the simple tournament ladder to such concepts as team members with their own individual personalities The following game modes are included:
Deathmatch
Team Deathmatch
Capture the flag

Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition is a rehash of UT so several considerations had to be made to write this review: how well does it stand up to the current batch of FPSs, are the additions cause enough for someone who already owns UT to purchase GOTYE, and is this a good FPS for the first timer? The answers are: very well, no and yes.
The graphics haven’t changed from UT. There are many graphic options so it’s worth your time to configure them to your liking. Action is smooth for the most part – depending on your hardware configuration and your Internet connection during multiplay. Character models and skins are detailed. Indoor levels offer detailed architecture and even outdoor levels don’t slow down the action. There is a lot of colour too, which makes everything very easy to look at. The weapon effects are particularly well done.
UT: GOTYE has all the weapons found in the regular UT. Of course, there are a variety of new weapons to master including a wicked looking sword, happy face proximity bombs (that giggle maniacally), turrets and crossbows. These weapons are courtesy of the ChaosGOTYE mutator (one in a long list of mutators that affect various aspects of the game) found in the practice menu. These menus allow players to customize gameplay without having to know any programming. If you want lower gravity, make Enforcers the only weapon available, and enable chainsaws as the melee weapon you can do it quickly and easily. The menus themselves are easy to navigate and understand. Setting up a practice session (frag limit, map order, bot intelligence, game type, etc.) takes about 30 seconds.

Sobering reality check: No matter what Independence Day, War of the Worlds, or even Transformers tells you, we are so not prepared for a full-out alien invasion. If some bad dudes who have the technology to zip across the stars decide to target us, we are toast--no handy computer virus that we can upload to the mothership, no assurance that a sneeze can kill a spaceship, and no fancy energy cube to blow them up with. We got nothing. Petroglyph (a company full of former Command & Conquer developers, whose last significant title was Star Wars: Empire at War) seems to be the only developer to realize that, as us humans get ended quite easily in the opening of Universe at War: Earth Assault.
The single-player story campaign starts with the Hierarchy (one of UAW's three playable factions), an alien race best summarized as "the one with the huge war machines," crashing down and pounding on the Earth. This prelude puts you in the shoes of Colonel Moore, a tough guy with a minigun and a promotion to General by virtue of being the highest-ranking person to avoid annihilation by the Hierarchy. Your first mission, controlling Moore and his puny army of Marines, is to rescue the President. A lot of traditional RTS mechanics are taught here, such as "click here to attack dudes" and "use this special ability to get past these guys." While Moore and his cadre of Marines and tanks can put up a fight against a few Hierarchy grunts, when a Hierarchy walker enters the picture, they pretty much can't even dent it--which is right when the Novus appear in a last-minute save against the Hierarchy walkers that have been trashing Moore and his truly ragtag army.
After a whopping two missions, we Humans are relegated to "second banana" roles, and the story shifts to the Novus. The Novus are robots that have been waging war against the Hierarchy for years and years. For the Novus portion of the campaign, you mainly control the Novus hero Viktor/Mirabel. Mirabel is the (sole) humanoid in the Novus race, and she pilots the Viktor battlesuit. While Mirabel shows you how to play as Novus--with their funky use of patches and "network flow"--and do traditional RTS things like blowing up stuff and making armies, she also tries to cooperate with Moore and the rest of the humans. The other main Novus hero you get to play around with in the campaign is Vertigo, a badass ninja/black-ops type of agent who also happens to be a jet. After a few missions in the Novus portion of the storyline, I decided to stop and wait for the real game. So no comments about how the Hierachy or even the last faction, the Masari, fit into the story mode.
f you don't care for the aliens jabbering at each other about wars and beliefs that have been totally made up, there is also the scenario mode, which is essentially a story-less campaign that feels a bit like Risk with aliens. The basic structure of a scenario is a global map where you conquer the Earth one territory at a time, and when two armies happen to land on the same territory, it changes from the global mode to a traditional RTS battle. There are a small number of scenarios that dictate starting conditions; one scenario had each faction exploring Earth for the first time, putting everyone on a mad land grab early on. Another scenario had the Earth neatly divided among all three factions, while yet another had you starting with barely any territory and everyone else occupying most of the planet, which means you focus on graduating from ragtag army to world conqueror.
On this global map view, you use your heroes to grab territory and establish structures. After snagging a piece of land, you can choose what type of base to build there; one type will boost your economy, another will be focused on research, and the last can build units. You can then purchase individual upgrades for these bases, such as defenses that will help out in the tactical mode, or modules that allow for specialized unit, or increased, production. If you have a production base, then you use that to create units to attach to your heroes. These units will be part of your hero's army, and whenever you start a tactical skirmish, they'll be fresh and ready to fight right off the transport. Finally, if you have the scratch, you can also build a superweapon that can wipe out enemy regions (the Hierarchy get a really big walker, the Novus a really big gun, and the Masari a really big, er, energy thingy).
What's interesting is that all of this capture-and-build stuff is done in real-time as well (as opposed to other strategy games that play out in turns). Which led to the humiliating moment: I left my game alone for about 10 minutes and came back to see that most of America had been swallowed up by the Masari in my absence, and that the sum total of the Hierarchy was just Mexico. That was my cue to stop playing for now and wait for the final retail release next month. At least I am now armed with the knowledge that I can't just sit around and think that nothing will happen until I click on "end turn" when I play UAW's campaign mode.

The idea that German scientists might have developed a nuclear bomb during the Second World War is a thrilling speculation and one that's served as the driving force behind a number of compelling "what if" scenarios. The latest is Undercover: Operation Wintersun, a point and click adventure title from the fine folks at Sproing and dpt. The game opens as British officials receive word that the German government is working on a new bomb project. The Brits call in a noted professor for an initial evaluation of the plans before sending him to Germany to thwart the project.
Throughout the course of the mission, Professor Russell infiltrates offices, repairs machinery in plants, talks with locals in a German town, and even visits a besieged city on the Eastern Front. But while you'll have to dodge German patrols from time to time, the game's setting is a bit generic and it really could go a lot farther in terms of making you feel like you're in the middle of the Second World War. In fact, if you just replace the Nazis with Soviets, there's really nothing to separate this game from a Cold War spy thriller.
Professor Russell isn't exactly the typical hero, which makes for a nice change of pace. His overly analytical, detached investigation into the German bomb project doesn't involve car chases, shootouts, or fisticuffs on top of moving trains. Of course, your own interest level in the game depends on whether or not you like the idea of saving the world through grade-level science experiments and logic puzzles instead of gunfire and chasm-leaping.
This overly detached approach to the game carries through into the professor's voice over. His lack of emotion during the initial briefing seems like typical British reserve, but he manages to sound just as dull and flat when discussing how to rescue one of his allies from a burning plane crash or reacting to the unexpected sniping of an officer standing four feet in front of him. The other voices in the game are just as stilted and are hardly sufficient to carry the drama of the story.
The professor is usually accompanied by one of two different operatives who are ostensibly there to provide the muscle and moxie normally required in the spy game. Unfortunately, except for a handful of scripted interactions, they seem completely useless. Even when there are guards that need to be taken out, your companions are likely to just throw their hands up in the air and urge you to find a scientific solution to the problem.
In general, most of the puzzles are fairly logical and genuinely challenging. The chemistry puzzles at the beginning, for instance, aren't terribly obvious right at the start but once you do solve them, you begin to realize that the information required to complete them had been right in front of your face the whole time. On the other hand, realizing that getting a rat drunk is the key to stealing a pack of cigarettes from a local innkeeper is a little more of a stretch.
There are a few timed puzzles here and a few opportunities to get shot, captured, or otherwise removed from the action but the game simply reloads the sequence at the beginning so you can have another crack at it. This kind of removes some of the pressure you might otherwise feel, particularly with the few timed puzzles that you run across.
